The Railway Operation Supervisory Officers Unions would launch a 48-hour token strike from Wednesday midnight demanding solutions to salary anomalies, the Railway Guards Union said.
Union President Janaka Fernando said they had sent proposals to the National Salary and Cadre Commission two weeks ago requesting to resolve salary anomalies.
“We met with the officials of the Commission this morning as well but there was no positive outcome. Therefore, we decided to go ahead with a token strike. We will meet the Ministry Secretary tomorrow and the decision could be revised following the outcome of that meeting,” he told the Daily Mirror.

No where in the world, any country has so much of strikes and create hardships for the innocent public, economy and progress. let any government come, if we continue to be destructive the economy will further decline. The biggest problem in sri lanka is the politicians are destructive, and greedy for power. they become super rich and public becomes poorer and poor.

The railway is in bad shape. We still have almost the same timetable for the last 60 years. It is time to privatise the railway and give it a new look. Get rid of these time serves.

You people put the public into sever inconvenience and then say your strike was a success. What kind of people are you? So for all your personal gains you squeeze the throats of the public.

Only solution is privatize the whole of government services. See the countries like Singapore, Malaysia. Countries with state services amounting more than 50% of work forces are in bad shape?

As a regular railway commuter, I can personally attest to the lethargy of the railway fellows. They only want timely salary increments, but they never do their jobs timely. It's high time to privatize railways
