President Gotabaya Rajapaksa today inspected the Department of Motor Traffic (DMT) Office at Werahera, which was previously known as Registrar of Motor Vehicles (RMV) and instructed its officials to streamline the services within a month.

A video circulating on social media showed the President instructing the Department officials to streamline the services to provide a better service to the people.

“Have a proper system in place to serve the public so that they can save the time. If you have issues, talk about them. This is a public service and the officials should be able to manage the services and the people. It is not rocket science. I will come back and inspect in a month. There are many complaints about the RMV,” he said.

Meanwhile, the President's Media Division (PMD) said the President inspected the procedures laid down to obtain driving licences and met the staff including the senior officials of the department. He reiterated that no room should be made for any irregularity when providing the services to the public.

“Time is a vital factor for anyone. Hence, the officials should be committed themselves to provide their service in an efficient manner. The client should be notified when their job can be completed. This will be helpful for the public to attend their other work instead of waiting and wasting their time at the office,” said the President while highlighting the importance of resolving issues through discussion.

“It is very important that institutions such as Department of Motor Traffic which serves a large number of people in the country set an example to others. When delivering their service all the officials should firmly resolve themselves to prevent any fraud or corruption.”

President instructed to recruit suitable candidates from among the 54,000 unemployed graduates to fill vacant positions. The public is appalled by the actions of the politicians and the officials. Both parties should work in a responsible manner to change this situation, President added. (Lahiru Pothmulla)

Leaders in countries like UAE,Malaysia, Singapore to transformed their countries to have inspected their government services like this. No previous president in Sri Lanka has done like this. Good people in Sri Lanka should support him in their capacity for future of Sri Lanka.

This is very welcome news, indeed. The last time a president of Sri Lanka took such an interest in the well being of the people was during the time of President Premadasa. The last and our former PM, too, adopted a lackadaisical attitude allowing their henchmen to rob the country at will. I hope that this action will be just the beginning and the good President will continue to take an active interest in the day to day affairs of the people.

Yes, he is a true leader, but there are vicious people who condemn good work even through this column. That is the nature of vicious people. No leader in the history of SL has been so gracious! Wish the Blessings of the Triple Gem to you!

Great! well done Sir! It's a good lesson to other Govt Dept's and Institutions as well. They all should need to improve the existing systems with modern technology and methods to serve the public and other visitors to offer a better and fast service as the existing systems are too slow and wasting too much time unnecessarily. Following up on these and monitoring is necessary until improved systems are implemented and established.

This new president is asking questions like he has never been in this land ever before. Is there a need to ask such ridiculous questions to fix things when anomaly, inefficiency and quality of life and rights are at stake is apparent to any citizen of the country. The trump-like performance will dislodge you from the throne, call your wise men and ask them to put progressive systems, processes and administrative guidelines and timelines in place. As a president, you only need to have a vision for the country. Do you have one or are more worried about the next General Elections?

RMV is one of the best public service dept. in here. President should visit CMC Planning Branch and to witness how they receive application and process. Need president's attendance on CMC work.

Fantastic job Mr. President. Please continue to inspect other government offices as well. I support and salute you Sir!

People like K lL pathirana do not want Sri Lanka to become a developed country. They just thrive on chaos. That is why when someone in power tries to do something , they see it in a negative mindset. Majority of our people want a better place. Thanks to this Predident we are not having any LTTE war for over 11 years . Now he tries to do something in his capacity but people have to support him.

This president is like Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. On the one hand he is friendly and close to the people, on the other hand he is a criminal, merciless and ruthless despot
