Premalal takes oaths as MP; SJB MPs walk out

Ratnapura district Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) MP Premalal Jayasekara alias “Choka Malli” took oaths as a Member of Parliament amidst protest of the Opposition MPs today.

The MPs of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) had walked out of parliament chamber in protest against Jayasekara taking oaths as an MP.

MP Jayasekara, who was sentenced to death over a shooting incident in 2015, was escorted to parliament by prison officials to attend the sittings scheduled at 1pm today.

The Court of Appeal yesterday issued an interim order on the Prison Commissioner and on the Superintendent of Welikada Prison to produce MP Jayasekara for Parliamentary sessions.

Mr. Jayasekera and two others were convicted by the Ratnapura High Court for shooting to death a person while injuring two others during the 2015 Presidential Election campaign.

I'm not conversant with the law.From what I know one is innocent till proven guilty.Here he is proven guilty,and he is guilty till he proves innocence. So lawyers please clarify whether he can be present in parliament.
