Power to several areas of the country has been disrupted when the unit 2 generator at the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant shut down due to a technical issue, Director of Development at the Ministry of Power and Energy Sulakshana Jayawardena told Daily Mirror.
“The unit generated 270 megawatts of power to the grid. We have been forced to discontinue power to several areas to cope with the demand. Our engineers and engineers of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) are on site working towards bringing the generator back on line,” he said.
“The areas affected by the outage and the duration of the power cut cannot be determined at the moment,” Jayawardena said. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

When was the Norochcholai power stationed commissioned? I was recently going passed the power station and show nice quartets inside the compound. When inquired I learnt that they are for the Chinese maintenance staff. The plant is still maintained by the Chinese company that built it. The Electricity Board staff are overpaid. Where are the unions and the Peoples Channel which backs these unions giving them unwanted and unwarranted publicity.

This is the result of outdated Chinese technology to third world and developing countries, given in the name of aid and concessionary loans. Sri Lanka too is a victim of Chinese deception.
