Police opened fire at a speeding vehicle, which was believed to be smuggling drugs, at Pannipitiya this morning.
The driver of the vehicle had ignored directions by police officers to pull over, which had prompted the officers to take action.
Police said the car had fled the scene amidst gunshots. No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made as yet.

How come the police did not give chase? Firing needs to be used only in extreme last resort circumstances. This shows how unprofessional, trigger based and simply lethargic police we have.

Can they open fire like this. There is no war in this country. A driver would have not seen the policeOr some innocent man in the road would have been shot
