The police today said they were probing to establish whether test cricketer Dhananjaya de Silva's father Dehiwala-Mt. Lavinia Municipal Councillor Ranjan de Silva’s killing was linked to the Councillor's opposition to drug smuggling.
Ranjan de Silva was gunned down by three men armed with T-56 weapons outside his residence in Ratmalana on Thursday night.
A senior police officer investigating the incident today said that several police teams were conducting investigations into the shooting.
He said the Councillor was targeted by either drug smugglers or underworld gangsters as he was reported to have revealed the identity of drug smugglers and spoken against them.
The investigating officers said they believed they could be able to identify the shooters and the cause within a few days as a comprehensive investigation had been launched into the incident. (Darshana Sanjeewa)

Some top politician was behind this man's killing because they are the drug dealers and they will protected these killers and never find them. Three killers are on the way to the Parliament as fur MPs. Good luck to Mother Lanka.

Sri Lanka such a beautiful country has no law and order sadly, it is heartbreaking to see our humble talented young cricketer lose his loving father under such horrible, cruel act of pure EVIL- Pray for him and the rest of his family at this time of great shock loss and sadness.Praying for justice to the family, may the police bring the culprits to justice and keep them behind bars or hang them dead....it is disgusting and frustrating to see such things happen in our beautiful land..Prayers and thoughts with the family it is a great loss.

It is sad sad to see the country is plumtting to be the level of worse than Somalia. Both Sirisena and Ranil are the worst leaders that this country has ever produced and will never either. All the bloody drug dealers and underworld fellows are enjoying life with state patronage. All the promises made before the election are forgotten. I will tell these two politicians that they will not even get 5000 votes and watch out for Nagananda Kodithuwakku who will emerge as the next leader from nowhere like what happened in France.
