The eight youths, who posted photos taken on top of the ruins of Kiralagala Cheithiya in Horowpothana on social media, were remanded till February 5 by the Kebithigollewa Magistrate today, Police Spokesman SP Ruwan Gunasekara said.
He said seven suspects were arrested by the Horowpothana Police last evening while another suspect was arrested this morning.
He said the youths, who are final year students of the South Eastern University’s engineering faculty, were arrested within the university premises.
The arrests were made following the orders given by the IGP. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
