Authorities should pay special attention when investigating the incident where students from Mahanama College had forcibly entered Yashodara Balika Vidyalaya during a big-match parade, Jathika Hela Urumya (JHU) Chief Patron Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera said yesterday.

While condemning the incident the Thera also said he was disappointed with the way the Police acted during the incident.

“These kinds of incidents cannot be considered trivial. These students had intimidated staff members and assaulted an employee of the school. I was criticized when I suggested that the big matches should be banned,” the Thera said.

The Thera said education without discipline was useless. (Kalathma Jayawardhane)

It must be taken up law and order without delay. it was very bad signal for the future students generations and their behavior. Should be arrested all students who engaged in this unethical and anti social actions.

    Mafy Thursday, 23 March 2017 09:21 PM

If students cannot behave then there is no harm in banning big matches. Schools have to be accountable for the actions of their students.

Hold the big matches. Confine them only to grounds. Ban all cycle/vehicle parades related to big matches. Enforce discipline.

    Amila Friday, 24 March 2017 11:36 AM

The school involved this issue has not a great big match histroy. Only has played less than 10 big matches and played with different schools. These type of schools big matches should be banned hence they are not having a embadded culture or brotherhood mentality to have big matches.

    Nethra Friday, 24 March 2017 11:37 AM

Was this the first time ever that Yashodara Balika was invaded like this ?.They have simply blown this out of proportion to create an undue damage. Not condoning but many leading girls schools have been experiencing this from time immemorial but have always handled with utmost diplomacy , hence have always ended with only innocent fun

    Kaboos Thursday, 23 March 2017 01:34 PM

Thera you are absolutely right very first education dept should ban cycle parade, walk and other activities , The big match can be confine to the grounds only.

    Citizen Friday, 24 March 2017 03:29 AM

Very Good idea by the reverend monk. Ban all Marches, walks Cycle, three wheeler and vehicle parades. Confine all these to special grounds. Then no inconvenience to public

    aravinda Thursday, 23 March 2017 03:30 PM

These incidents took place outside the school premises of Mahanama and It is not the school principal but, the police should take 100% responsibility for what happened yesterday at Yashodara Balika and Meuseus. Now the police is trying to close the gates after the horses have bolted. What venerable monk says is very true. These hooligans does not know how to behave on the streets and think only they have rights. Hope the minister of law and order comes out and make a statement saying how he is planning to stop occurring these events in the future.

    Kamal Thursday, 23 March 2017 03:43 PM

Looks like this monk is having an issues with the youth. Rather than trying to discipline them thorugh the schools, he want to banned big matches and etc. How about your own temples in Embilipitiye and Singapore?
