Parliament today approved the Appropriation Bill giving legal effect to all state expenditure for the year 2020.
Minister Bandula Gunawardana refuted claims made by the opposition that the government had spent money illegally throughout the year. He said the Supreme Court had approved the spending.
“The opposition repeatedly alleged that the government has spent funds illegally. They also went into the extent of filing legal action and called for the reconvening of Parliament earlier this year. However, the Supreme Court dismissed the opposition petition and approved state spending,” the Minister said. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
