The Mirihana Special Crimes Investigation Unit officers today arrested a gangster known as 'Pangiriwatte Sudda', who is an accomplice of Makandure Madush, in connection with the robbery of a diamond and several gems worth over Rs.5 billion in Pannipitiya last November.
Police said 40-year-old Chamila Rangana Perera, alias 'Pangiriwatte Sudda', was arrested along with a motor car during a raid at Delkanda.
The car was seized at a house in Piliyandala and investigations revealed the same car had been used for the diamond robbery by the suspects.
The suspect, a resident of Pangiriwatte in Nugegoda, would be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate.
Earlier this week, the Peliyagoda Divisional Crime Detection Bureau had arrested Kelum Indika Sampath, alias ‘Kawma’, with the diamond which was stolen at Pannipitiya. (Darshana Sanjeewa)
