Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe had instructed the UNP backbench parliamentarians to withdraw the No-Confidence motions submitted to the Speaker against six ministers and the deputy speaker, Department of Information Director General Sudharshana Gunawardana said today.

Quoting the Premier, Mr. Gunawardana said that any decision regarding a No-Confidence motion must be taken at a UNP parliamentary group meeting.

“The Prime Minister has stated that the No-confidence motions handed over by the backbench UNP MPs was not a decision of the UNP but the views of a few MPs. Further decisions on the matter will be taken at a UNP group meeting, soon. He has asserted that the issues arisen with SLFP would be resolved through negotiations,” Mr. Gunawardana added. We have been rather critical of the actions of the PM. This, however, is a magnanimous gesture.

Will those who voted against the NCM regret their decision now?

    Nimesh Friday, 06 April 2018 10:06 PM

No. Some got vehicles. Some got money. Some got promises of cabinet positions.

    raj Friday, 06 April 2018 09:43 PM

I was very happy when i saw RW defeating the NCM. but now i feel i was wrong .... never beleive this guy anymore and he is going to burie the dignity of UNP very soon.

    Qed Friday, 06 April 2018 10:05 PM

Dont complain now. Pohottuwa gave UNP an opportunity. Now you will have to wait till 2025 to give the party to Sajith.

A gentlemanly action from the PM.

Even JR has been a gentleman but he ruled with an iron fist.

It is time Srilankans become a bit more intelligent and ditch all the past and present clowns. It is become a big circus where we are all turning into a country of clowns and circus!! The law and order is breaking down while the citizens suffer the parliamentarians and the leaders of ALL parties are making money and having Merry.

    Dee Friday, 06 April 2018 10:10 PM

Promise made in action. Not allowing MP's to act on own Will. Unlike the better half, some members voted for and the rest abstain and even join in with the JO. Good. Keep it up PM.

    Unchikun Friday, 06 April 2018 10:11 PM

This man needs to sent packing soon and. new political force need to be formed. A clean and outspoken actor can be the best to lead this group.

Jagath Leanage Friday, 06 April 2018 10:19 PM

You would have asked to put that with the intention of withdrawing , to get the good name . These are dramas .

    Summa Friday, 06 April 2018 10:23 PM

I just saw an FB meme. It says the meaning of 'honorable' is "someone who robbed millions from the country". How true !!!!

    Bala Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:50 AM

So that is why the term honourableis used in this news item by the DM or the Info Dept.

    Sofia Saturday, 07 April 2018 08:52 AM

So what is Excellency for - may be for looting in billions of US$. Ahh. Excellent.

If the no confidence motion handed over against the SLFP members who voted in favour of the no confidence motion against RW was a decision that needed to be endorsed by the UNP parliamentary group, how come it was accepted by the speaker in the first place? It appears that they do not know the procedures to be followed! What a bunch of jokers our parliamentarians are whichever party they belong to!!!Feel sorry for the country!

    ahamed Saturday, 07 April 2018 09:38 AM

I believe this is the reason, UNPs struggling, RW never having a clear decision.

    P.Phelps Jeganathan Saturday, 07 April 2018 09:39 AM

Do not behave like Jimmy carter. People do not like such leaders.Do not block the NCM against the culprits. If you still want to have them in your government just to please the President, people will teach you a lesson in the next election. If you keep them with you you they will not allow you to implement your plans . They will get to gether with Mahinda and damage you and your party until the next election and you will go home for ever on that day.

    azar Saturday, 07 April 2018 09:44 AM

Once he gets hold of the power he forgets everything as he always does with the unp masses, goes around strike deal with countries and individuals, this time too, going to be the leader for a bunch, who have molested and abused in the public if he does not feel shameful the unp supporters definitely do.

    Wettesinghe Saturday, 07 April 2018 09:49 AM

SLFP parasite ministers should be removed, we cannot let them enjoy all the perks and let them purposefully ruin the country to tarnish UNP image on peoples money.

    Lawry Saturday, 07 April 2018 09:52 AM

You lit fire crackers for this. Congratulations.

    BV Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:07 AM

I 'm sure the P.M.has not given any such instructions. How can the Director of Information make statements on behalf of the U.N.P.Surely the U.N.P has its own Party spokesman.

    Ceylon Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:21 AM

Ranil never support unp.but he immediatly support anty unpiers.he is not qualified to be unp take action to remove him from unp leadership.unpiers unanimously voted him.those who tried to unseat him now he is savier.

    Robert Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:31 AM

Bringing NCM against the 16 is a PR disaster, since the TNA might abstain and give MR the chance to say that the Govt's doesn't have a majority. Those who want real change start pushing for Impeachment against MS (with or without Ranil's approval).

    TJ Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:32 AM

Those who voted against the Prime Minister has no right to sit in the cabinet headed by the PM. May be RW is keeping them to expose their duplicity.

    Ishan Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:35 AM

Again playing a reverse game this is Ranil. All UNP member stick together and change this leader. This is a another deal he never learn lesson.

Kandy Boy Saturday, 07 April 2018 10:39 AM

Gentlemanly act these ungentlemanly folks would not understand.
