The GCE Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination could be held in March next year, said Minister of Education, Prof. G.L Peiris.
Addressing a news briefing, the Minister also said the results of the examination could be released in June and A / L classes were expected to commence in July.
A total of 621,000 candidates are hoping to face the upcoming O/L examination.
Considering the current pandemic situation in the country, the Minister said examination would not be held on the scheduled date which is on January 18, 2021.
“A total of 10,165 schools are available in the country, but we could open only 5, 100 schools. The rest of the schools could not be opened owing to the current situation. Therefore, it is not fair to hold the Examination in January next year,” he said.
“A sum of Rs.10,000 has been allocated among examination and evaluation centres to obtain health safety materials such as sanitizer bottles,” the Minister added. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
