Nuwara Eliya starts to bloom with festive season

The popular Nuwara Eliya 'Wasantha Udanaya' or Summer festival will be held through the month of April this year strictly maintaining health guidelines, the city's Mayor Chandana Lal Karunarathne said yesterday while inaugurating the 2021 festive season on the bank of the Gregory’s Lake.

The ceremonies began with the participation of Central Province Governor Lalith U. Gamage. The organisers have scheduled a series of event including horse racing, floral exhibitions, entertainment segments and other events to attract local and foreign tourists who are expected in large numbers. But the organizers have decided not to hold musical shows this year.Tourist hotels and guest houses have already been booked by local and foreign tourists even before the start of the festive season.

All those participating at the festival will come under the scrutiny of PHIs of the Nuwaraeliya Public Health authorities. Providing security arrangements during the festivities will be handled under the supervision of Nuwaraeliya SSP. (Ranjith Rajapakse)
