Former Minister Johnston Fernando was acquitted from all charges with regard to a case filed against him over non-declaration of his assets and liabilities for the year 2010 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne.
The Bribery Commission had filed five separate cases for four years from 2010 to 2014 under the Non-Declaration of Assets Act and he was acquitted from all charges over the case for the year 2010.

We know this govt is not capable of finding fault with anyone even if they are at fault.

If assets declaration is not filed Jhonny had to prove that it was filed. I am at a loss to see how he got out.

Surely either he had filed them or not. If not guilty why was he charged ? SL Law works in mysterious ways. NO wonder our corruption index at 89.

This heading is very misleading. People commenting also haven't read the article. He was charged for years 2010 to 2014. He was acquitted for 2010 only.

Rather than wasting public money on court cases such this why do not AG first ask a copy of Assets Declaration and earnings for these years and check is it worthwhile to go for courts.

This is an impetus for other political bigwigs also not to declare their assets and liabilities and get out of the net in this same manner.
