Murali no-balling ‘disrespectful’ says Waugh

Former Australian captain Steven Waugh has said that the no-balling Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan during the famous Boxing Day Test match in MCG back in 1995 was ‘disrespectful’ and ‘should have been sorted out beforehand.’

“I just felt it was a bit unfair the way it unfolded. We all knew that Darrell Hair was going to make that call and he made that call on the fact that he believed Murali was bowling illegally. I think it should have been sorted out beforehand in a different way. I just thought he was crucified on the biggest stage of Test cricket. To me it was quite disrespectful to a player,” Waugh told

Muralitharan later went on to become the highest wicket-taker of Test cricket with 800 scalps.

It was a preplanned exercise. Our victories in Pakistan, Newzealand and sharjah had the establishment (Aust Eng etc) worried that we were making big strides in Cricket world.

Well !! , what you mean is Australian Cricket Board was fully aware of Darrell Hair is a racist. So, ACB and the world body must make immediate apology to whole world of cricket that they had made a unpardonable blunder in gentleman's game without any reservation..

Yes, cricket lovers all around the world knew it was wrong and disrespectful.

You Aussies always keep attacking different ways during matches to bring players down mentally. Although you knew before hand nobody took any action. Murali not only became the highest wicket taker he changed the law to make his action legal. That's the power of Sri Lankan cricket.

Too little too late Mr. Vaugh. You had all these years to express your opinion, why did you wait until you are retired and almost irrelevant to admit guilt. Australian cricket is well-known for its antics against the spirit of the game. Shame on you.

The only career CA ruined was Darrell Hairs they stitched him up and then hung him to dry when the pre planned plot back fired and started crumbling

Merry x'mas Steve, if Dareel had his hands in his pockets this wouldnt have happened.

He had no guts to say it when he was playing. Its the habit of westerners to admit once they are not ruling any longer.

You Australians are very fear to Srilankan Bowler and wanna create Warne well bowler in this cheaper way.....LOL

Antony Peter Tuesday, 26 December 2017 07:34 AM

Likewise, one day decent Australians will say that Antany's citizenship should not have been deleted because of his writings. Darrel Hair ended up in stealing money, but the count released him as mentally ill. In fact he was mentally ill and racist that is why he treated Murali badly. I am looking forward to find out who gave order to delete my citizenship and his current life status.

Hair was also known to be a gambling addict and payment for making that call is not a far-fetched idea.
