More time to pay spot fines

The police have extended the time to pay spot fines by a week considering the inconvenience caused to the people due to the ongoing postal strike.
Police media said drivers can pay their fines at the special counters set up at the Divisional Secretariats (DS) that would function until the postal strike was called off.
The spot fine receipt should be produced to the respective police station.
If the date of the payment of fines is today, then the charge sheet should be amended by producing it to the OIC Traffic of the particular police station. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

Yeah, amending the charge sheet by an OIC is not an inconvenience.First of all, traffic police needs to update their entire system. The whole system is an inconvenience to people. First they collect the driver's license and gives a charge sheet, which doesn't even have the fine. Then the people would have to go to the police station again to get the fine, go to postal office to pay it, and again come back to the police station to get the driver's license. How come these people didn't understand this whole process is an inconvenience? Why can't this system be changed to pay the fine (online, to a bank) without surrendering the license?

Can they pay the fines to a bank account and produce receipt to police. Please think out of the box.

I agree with you. But the reason probably is to make it inconvenient to pay so people will not offend. Another way to lessen offenders would be to increase the fine. Which one would most people like......

It is high time to implement online payment for spot fines initiated by police some years back. over to the relevant authorities to rethink quickly.

I don't think making it inconvenient would reduce the offends. Do we see any reduction of violators now? May be increasing the fines would be a better choice, so that many would think twice before doing any. Many countries have higher fines for road rule violations, and may be adapting to such might convince people to obey road rules. Additionally the police should utilize the cameras to find offenders and fine them. However we are in SL, so whatever the mechanism the police implements, it would only apply for general public, not the so called VIP buffoons.

every traffic police team should be given a mobile visa card machine for customers to pay spot fine. 75% of drivers has debit or credit card in sri lanka

All are time wasting, better way to introduce on on line account on driving licence holder and what ever fine can record to above on line account, licence holder can settle the amount by any mode , then need to police guys get licences.
