Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa today said ‘hatred and jealousy’ are two qualities his predecessor Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga shouldn’t possess.

Responding to a journalist following an event held at the BMICH, Mr. Rajapaksa said hatred was visible through former President Kumaratunga as she was aging.

He said if there was an issue with his education, which was criticized by Ms. Kumaratunga, it should be raised by the Supreme Court judges as he was sworn-in as a lawyer in the Supreme Court.

“She is behaving like this, with jealousy and hatred as she ages. Don’t stoop to this level (Mehema epa Chandrika, Mehema epa). That’s all I have to say,” he said.

Q: Is Ms. Kumaratunga educated?

A: I’m not going to comment on that. You better ask her.

Q: But Minister S.B. Dissanayake has commented on that.

A: Exactly, you should ask about that from SB.

Over the weekend, former president Kumaratunga said none of the Rajapaksas possesed an education which exceeded grade 8 level.

We all know that Chandrika's mouth did not have brakes. But she was able to hold her own against any foreign leader. She had her faults but yet she was dignified. She was not a cheap rogue like MaRa. In the case of MaRa and his children, although they went to school, they were only street thugs, rogues and womanisers. If only MaRa really had the knowledge of a lawyer, he wouldn't have behaved the way he did.

You have to thank Felix who brought an amamendment to Law College entrace in early seventies where any parliamentarian below 30 years can gain auto admission irrespective of theor educational qualification. Re:hatred and jealousy, SWRD left the UNP because he had "hatred and jealousy" with the well to do UNP supporters, first thing he did was to Nationalise the Private Bus companies (see what a burden it has become to the Tax Payers today). The party he formed has been a KODIVINAYAK to this country. One can see what 'hatred and jealousy" he has implemented in the mind of SLFPers they cannot even work together for the GOOD of the Nation. I havene't forgotten the "words" that you used to attack Chandrika verbally in Galle when she tried to use your stage to address people who had been your follows in the march from Colombo to Katharagama when the UNP was in Power. What is the moral justification of that unethical conduct by that time? Are you now more civilized or have lost all good qualities what you had once?
