This shows to what extent school rugby has declined in discipline. "Win at any cost" that is the motive. We should revert back to good old days where only friendly fixtures were played. As sri lankan standard in Rugby is so poor, we should play only freindly fixtures than these tournaments.

Blown out of proportion let him coach the stupid people need to suck it up and move on, not that the boy got any serious injury now did he? people are trying to disrupt our title hopes nothing else.

He interfered with selecting referees and media was not allowed to video the games at royal complex when he is coaching royal. No disciplinary action was taken. Martis may have slapped the school boy with good faith.

It is a sobering thought that there are children being abused like this in schools, who will in turn think its okay to strike out and hit at others, when an offence is committed against them. Many of the rugby fraternity have been Martis-apologists, saying he is an 'excellent coach' or saying 'his methods work'. He may be an experienced coach, but he is a sad humanbeing if his methods include slapping and beating kids. If they take proper action against this man, who has a track record of doing this, even to young kids, then many parents will come forward. You cannot be successful long term by ruling by fear. You have a responsibility towards the children you are influencing. They will grow up into adults who will be conditioned to think that violence is okay depending on the situation. What is ironic, is that he slapped a teenager for kicking a player who had fallen. So he slapped someone to teach them not to kick someone? Where is the sense in that? Good on the SLRFU doing this.

This is a criminal act that needs punishment.

This man should be banned for life from any forms of Sports.

Why don’t the authorities ban him for life. Further why don’t the parents of the school boy not taking any action thru police or lawyers.

Coach must teach the players discipline. Those days the master in charge, coach and the Principals take disciplinary action against the own players when fight and hit the opponents.

Hondha Hitha Thursday, 21 February 2019 04:31 PM

Yes I totally agree with the above comments. This man should be banned for life. Please investigate the past. Sometime back I was told by a school teach at St. Peters about the language he speaks to players during training sessions which is not acceptable

He is nothing but a thug. He should hit a person who will hit back.
