A 41-year old man has been sentenced to 12 years rigourous imprisonment for sexual abuse on a minor (16 years old) at a private child development centre, the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA) said.
The Special Investigations Unit of the NCPA launched an investigation into the sexual abuse following a complaint and arrested the suspect at the child development centre, who is a resident of Pitakotte .
Accordingly, the Attorney General filed a case against the suspect in the Colombo High Court.
The High Court convicted the suspect and sentenced him for 12 years rigourous imprisonment.
In addition to the sentence, a fine of Rs.10,000 was also imposed on the suspect and the magistrate ordered to pay Rs. 250,000 as compensation to the victim.
If the accused had failed to pay the compensation, his jail term would be further extended to four more years.(DSB)
