Man arrested with large cache of explosives in Nedunkerny

A man was arrested with a large cache of explosives and anti-personnel mines in a house at Senapilavu in Nedunkerny, Vavuniya this afternoon.

Police said the Nedunkerny police found the explosives  through a raid following a tip-off about a person collecting explosives.

Police found 21.635kg of TNT, 1.610kg grams of P.E. explosives and 148 anti-personnel mines in the house.

Among them, 22 anti-personnel mines were found to be active.

Investigations revealed that the suspect had been working as a bomb de-activator for an NGO for a long time and where the mines and explosives believed to have been collected.

Police said they were investigating whether the suspect was a former LTTE cadre and the motive behind  possession of those explosives.

The 32-year-old suspect, a resident of Oddusudan, to be produced before the Vavuniya Magistrate's Court.(Sithum Chaturanga )

    This is not the first incident where " ex- LTTE" have been collecting/ transporting explosives. Clear evidence as to why U.K. and other countries cannot take LTTE off terrorist list!
