Former Minister Mervin Silva’s son Malaka Silva, who was arrested for posing death threats and soliciting money from a businessman, was released on bail by the Kaduwela Magistrate today.

Police said Malaka Silva was released on two sureties of Rs. 500,000 each.

Silva was arrested on Tuesday night by the Thalangama Police after a businessman had complained about death threats.

He had allegedly asked Rs. 100,000 from his friend who is a businessman in June for the election campaign of his father.

Police said the Magistrate today ordered the suspect Silva to appear in the Thalangama Police each Sunday of second and fourth week of every month.

Aiyo, don't waste public money putting this guy in state prisons. Put him to work in some road building project as punishment. At least he will be useful to the country then.
