Former cricket captain Mahela Jayawardene has expressed disappointment over the comments made by MP Bandula Gunawardane that GCE A/L examination results of national and international schools should not be coupled, saying education is knowledge whether it’s free or paid.
In a tweet, Mahela Jayawardene said he was disappointed with the MP’s comment.
“Education is knowledge whether it’s free or paid. We should always encourage achievements of our next generations.Congratulations to all students but especially to the young girl who came 5th in all-island results. Well done,” he said.

We must be thankful to the particular International school which produced such great results. MP Bandula Gunewardena's comment is an insult to the student who achieved such results. Sri Lanka will never progress with politicians with such low mentality.

Mahela is right we must stand up at politicians, trying to mislead the masses to gain political mileage. Well done done to the “ little girl “ congratulations.

He is a foolish fellow. He got a number of punches from HE Mahinda and also from his political rivals and the general public. Once for saying Rs5000/= would be sufficient for five member family to live a month. Again suggesting to cut and sell two ebony plants in a school premises to get money to construct the roof of the school! That day HE Mahinda gave him a tough warning.

Yes, Bandula is a simpleton who once said that a family can live for just Rs. 2,500/- a month. So what wise statements to expect from him?
Dinna Wednesday, 02 January 2019 04:28 PM
What if a home schooled child achieves best results???? These Politicians utter such nonsense just to get popular with the masses. They are so ethically bankrupt and have no moral standard. Sad plight of Sri Lankan politics!!!
Dee Wednesday, 02 January 2019 07:03 PM
He probably won't understand what you mean. No point. As long as free education is there we will have more JOkers like him in parliament! Very few respected MP's nowadays. All JOkers.
