One should not act as children do and claim credit for the arrest of Makandura Madush but should come together and bust the whole racket, United National Party (UNP) MP Hector Appuharmy said today.
He told a media conference that the UNP would fully back the eradication of narcotics.
“We will support all efforts to bust Madush’s drug trafficking network but we should not act like children, make public statements and claim credit for his arrest. We should make a collective effort to eradicate all social evils” the MP said referring to the statement made by President Maithripala Sirisena last week that everyone is claiming credit for Madush's arrest.
The MP said it was sad to see the SLFP claiming credit for all good things which the government did and UNP blamed whatever that went wrong.
“We had a discussion with Minister Ranjith Maduma Bandara about Madush the other day. He revealed to us that a plan was put in place to arrest the underworld criminal. In such a situation UNP should also get the credit just like the others,” he said.
The MP said the UNP should have bigger say in the government as it was the UNP which backed the President at the 2015 presidential election.
“Most of the people backing him now are ones who opposed him during the presidential election. It was we who defended him,” he said. (Yohan Perera)

The UNP started the anti corrupt campaign in a blast with the bond scam and followed it up with footnotes. Please leave politics. We need clean and educated in the legislator.
