A leak was reported in a pipeline carrying fuel from tankers to Muthurajawela terminal, the Navy said today.
They said the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) had informed about the leak to the Navy yesterday and that the CPC had taken action to prevent the leak.
However, litres of fuel have reportedly spilled into the sea areas off Uswetekeiyawa.
Navy Spokesman Commander Dinesh Bandara said the Navy and the Coast Guard personnel were taking measure to remove the oil from the surface of the sea.
Meanwhile, the CPC said the renovation could take up to three days to complete.
"We have brought divers and obtained technical assistance" an official of the CPC said.(Darshana Sanjeewa)
