A suspected former LTTE cadre had died and another was injured in a landmine explosion in an area yet to be de-mined, the Department of Government Information said yesterday.
The police, who were conducting inquiries into the incident, said that the two youths were in the habit of using explosive devises hidden by the LTTE for fishing activities in the Northern seas.
According to initial investigations authorities believe the two youth had been trying to uncover more devises when the blast occurred killing one and injuring the other. The were not among those LTTE cadres that had been rehabilitated after the war concluded.
