In response to Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake's claim on the appointment of a large number of advisors, Minister Lakshman Kiriella said the Highways Ministry had only one advisor named Dr.Wimal Gunawardane.
The Minister said the others had been appointed only by the Road Development Authority to assist in addressing public concerns in the execution of road projects.
"I have already explained this to the people. I am doing so again for the benefit of Mr. Ramanayake ," he said.
He said public pressure is always there in carrying out road projects. Yet, he said the projects had to be executed with the proper management of public opinion. For that he said assistance of officials was needed for the RDA. (Kelum Bandara)

Hello Kiriella...you are out dated now. Your corrupted politics cannot be tolerated any more...

You have declared that all those appointed are supporters of the UNP and it needs to be done because of their support to bring the UNP to power. Please note that the citizens of this country don't care about appointing thousands of your party supporters or hench-aiyas to government positions, but please pay their wages out of your grandfathers or grandmothers savings. If they have not left any savings, then don't rob from public money to pay them.

It is correct that RDA needs Public Relations officers when doing road projects, to deal with public complaints and coordinate with public and the technical personnel. But if such roads are done through foreign funded projects (which is mostly the case), the supervision of such roads are done through consultants selected in the agreed principles and Public Relations officers are engaged by such consulting firm for that particular road. Even if RDA engages such persons to deal with public complaints, they are selected as Public Relations officers who are suitable for such work and selected through a selection process. Never are (or should) such persons persons be engaged as consultants. But the minister earlier said that he had to oblige the people who helped him to come to power. What a highly unacceptable principle
