Mohammed Farooq Mohamed Faiz alias 'Pichche Faiz', a close associate of the underworld figure Kanjipani Imran, had been arrested by the Maligawatta Police today.
Police said the 48-year-old suspect has been charged with a number of crimes, including a murder in 2001.
The police also recovered heroin from the suspect's possession at the time of his arrest.
The investigations have revealed that the suspect had been involved in a number of crimes led by Kanjipani Imran.
The Maligawatta Police said it was Pichche Faiz who took a mobile phone to the Boossa Prison recently, to be handed over to Kanjipani.(DSB)
