Kandakadu camp jailor suspended for possessing parcel to be given to inmate

A prison guard who was temporarily deployed at the Kandakadu COVID-19 treatment centre, has been suspended for illegally possessing a pack to be handed over to an inmate who was being treated for COVID-19.

Prison Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said the pack containing food items, two cigar lighters and Rs. 10,000 in cash was recovered from the jailor’s quarters following a tip-off.

He said the jailor was suspended pending investigation.

A few days ago, the security officers recovered two tennis balls containing narcotics were thrown into the Kandakadu COVID-19 treatment centre.
