The joint opposition today said that it was surprised by President Maithripala Sirisena’s remarks that future decisions related to financial matters should only be taken after consulting him.
The President had informed the Cabinet that decisions related to the Central Bank and other financial matters should only be taken through a committee comprising him, the Prime Minister and the Finance Minister.
“The President of the country should always be consulted when taking financial decisions and it is the normal practice. President’s remarks validate that previous decisions relating to the finance sector, which had led to current financial crisis, had been taken without consulting him,” MP Vasudeva Nanayakkara told a news conference. This principle did not affect MR because he read the speech given by Jayasundara and ran away from Parliament leaving his Deputy to answer.

You have been in politics for around 40 years I guess. What are your achievements so far? Any major projects that you implemented for the welfare of the people?

Ministers are sometimes taking important decisions without consulting the President. Since the President will have to bear with the fallout of such decisions they should consult him before taking them. They should show the President that whatever they do is absolutely necessary and if it is proven the President may agree, possibly with some changes he may deem necessary.

Are you ashamed of your incumbent president and trying to cover him up?

Vasudeve Nanayakkare is not a "welichcha wattakka", but someone who has common sense. MS and RW seem to be good clients of beauty saloons, they pose well together with full of make-up on their faces, but they seem to follow two ideologies, walking in two different directions. This government is obviously ready for crash unless they bring their act together. Otherwise, as Vasudeva remarked, they won't even have a welichcha wattakka for the Malabatha.

The present financial crisis is due to nothing but "M"aha "R"aja taking sole decision regarding the finance of the country.Take him to a dark bunker and within 24 hours we can recover all the billions.
