England Cricket captain Joe Root today surprised a superfan who was watching the match from the nearby Galle Fort, to thank him for supporting the English team.
The superfan Rob Lewis travelled to Sri Lanka in 2020 for the Sri Lanka-England series. Since the series was brought to a halt due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Lewis has remained in Sri Lanka for 10 months in anticipation of the English team’s return.
Following the First Test match win by seven-wickets, the English Skipper called the fan from the stadium, waving to Lewis who was watching him from the Galle Fort. “It was nice to see you finally up on the Fort. Mate, it's an absolute pleasure. That's why I wanted to come over on behalf of all the lads. We really appreciate your support. It's an incredible story and journey that you've been on over the last year or so. So more than anything I wanted to say a massive thank you,” Root said.
Taking to twitter Rob Lewis said he is proud to support his team. “What an unbelievable gesture. Makes me so proud to support you. Congratulations on your double-ton and deserved man of the match award. See you Friday, Skip. We go again,” he tweeted. (Kalani Kumarasinghe)

What about thanking Sri Lanka for accommodating him all this time on an extended tourist visa, in spite of the fact that he has been working as a DJ? Can any Sri Lankan abroad escape Immigration rules; if we decide to stay on in a country?

Really a great cricket fan. The mother cricket will certainly be proud of you for the love you have with cricket. The cricket will never die till we have a fan like you. God bless you my dear Lewis. Moreover the people here in Sri Lanka love cricket, cheer hundred whoever scores not like the people of Sydney-Australia.

I wonder if English papers would have given a big Sri Lankan positive coverage in their papers if Sri Lanka had travelled to England and beaten them there.

Joe Root should have thanked Sanga before thanking the English fan for predicting English victory and thus instilling in the English team enough confidence to beat Sri Lanka. And when the great Sanga returns to Sri Lanka from his expeditions I am sure all the Sinhalese cricket fans would rush to congratulate this truly patriotic cricketing legend.

Tamil accusing Sanga, unnecessarily for warning Sri Lanka, in requesting to play quality test cricket but continuing LPL, in tests. So, what's wrong? Even the structure of SL First Class cricket was asked to change by Sanga, Mahela, Sidath, etc. as they know what test cricket is all about. Learn from Indian Pujaru.

This would have made Sri Lankan’s blush with pride.

White man one law, if the roles were reverse, brown man would be an illegal immigrant.
