Power and Energy Ministry yesterday sprinkled bless water (Pirith Pen) on the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi in Anuradhapura wishing for rainwater to fill the major reservoirs, for hydro power generation.

Samples of water were taken from these reservoirs to be blessed, before being sprinkled on the sacred Bodhi.

Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, his deputy Ajith Perera and officials of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) attended the event. (Athula Bandara)

Would it be easier and practical to plant more trees or tight regulatory needs to stop destroying the rain forrest? But..this is Sri Lanka..

True, it is a tradition. It is a deletion. It is time we stopped illegal feeling of trees and start going forests. This will sort out the present water problems.

Why to anticipate rain, floods and disaster? Foolish thought of changing the leader to get away the droughts.

As an actual Buddhist, I must say these rituals are baffling. There were severe droughts during the time of the Buddha and he never resorted to "magic". One time all the monks had for alms was starch mixed with a little water. Buddha didn't even have his potion. He gave it to the younger monks who may not survive the conditions.

This shows traditional ritual. Some people try to interpret it. What matters is not interpretation but wish and result. via DM Android App
