Eighteen inmates of the Jaffna Prison have launched a hunger strike from this morning demanding that they be released on bail.
The Jaffna Police said the protesters had been imprisoned on drug smuggling charges.
Thirty six inmates had joined the strike this morning but 18 of them had withdrawn after a few hours.(Romesh Madushanka)
