JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake today questioned the government whether steps would be taken to officially obtain reports revealed in a British court disclosing an incident where a SriLankan Airline’s former CEO’s wife obtaining bribes from the French aircraft manufacturer Airbus.
He asked in Parliament whether the government would initiate legal action against those involved in the malpractice.
Mr. Dissanayake raising a question under Standing Order 27/2, said it was revealed in a legal proceedings in a British court that French aircraft manufacturer Airbus has paid US$ 2 million-bribe through a fake company under a wife of a former SriLankan Airlines chief official.
He said when the SriLankan was loss-making, people have to bear the money paid by way of bribes.
Leader of the House Dinesh Gunawardane said former SriLanakn CEO and his wife had reported to the CID and investigation was in progress into the incident and assured to provide a comprehensive answer tomorrow. (By Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)

It does not sound right that this CEO had all the power in his hand to approve/authorize such large transactions. Surely there has to be bigger fish to be netted in.

In Sri Lanka small fries are put in high positions and given all the power to make deals as long as the money tingles down the line. The reason is that when matters are exposed the large fish scoots away making the small fry to take the fall.

If legal action is taken there will be loop holes left in the charges for objections and the accused will be freed at the end
