The hierarchy of the joint opposition unanimously decided yesterday to oppose the 20th Amendment to the Constitution proposed by the JVP to abolish the Executive Presidency, an official said.
These discussions took place when they met former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Initially, there were differences of opinion. However, they reached a consensus that they should oppose the move undertaken by the JVP. They took the position that the constitution should not be amended in such a piecemeal manner.
Additionally, it was observed that there was a move to postpone elections along with this exercise. (Kelum Bandara)

There is a simple rule other parties should follow. If it's anything by JVP just oppose it. All they want is to destabilize the country and come to power through woes of the people.71, 88-89, supporting mahinda in 2005, getting fonseka in to politics in 2010, supporting my3 in 2015, local councils election bill in 2017, all these were calculated decisions to politically destabilize the country.

For a moment I though Mahinda is power hungry and will support this ill thought-out 20A. Looks like he has grown mature after people kicked him out.

Absolutely correct decision, during the previous regime when you'll were in power, 18th Amendment Bill on September 8, 2010, with 161 Members of Parliament voting for and 17 against the bill. //The President can seek re-election any number of times//This country needs true Democracy not Dictatorship.

JVP bring this amendment not in good faith to the country. Therefore JO's decision is correct at this time.

What we want is to live with basics not 20a

JO is 100% correct. The president must get the power back ,to dissolve the Parlment as well.
