Shores of Puttalam and neighbouring region in Sri Lanka have been getting deposited in the last three days with thousands of expired medicines, bottles, polythene packages and injection syringe.

All these expired medicines have seals and manufacturing stamps from India, the India Today reported.

With the sea turbulent, Puttalam fisheries officials suspect that the medical waste is coming from the Indian side and that it was disposed off in the sea in a hazardous manner.

The fishermen in the region fear that this will affect the fish in the sea and in turn their livelihood.

Officials in the region will begin a probe on how the medical waste is reaching the Sri Lankan waters.

Indians don’t understand hygiene and to them wherever there is water it is a place to dump the rubbish. Go to India and see their lakes and rivers !. The Indian apologists would blame the large population of India but China is a cleaner country with a larger population. The fact is the Indian mindset is different from being subjugated as second class citizens in their own country by continuos foreign occupations for more than 1500 years until 1947. This is what made them to be insensitive in every aspect of life including their surroundings.

Jaffna Tamil Sunday, 12 August 2018 02:53 PM

gammini, you are absolutely right. I hope the international community come to realise how insensitive the Indians are.

    Harris Sunday, 12 August 2018 03:02 PM

    Banda Sunday, 12 August 2018 03:31 PM

    Jaliya Sunday, 12 August 2018 03:17 PM

There is NO DIFFERENCE between a corrupt Indian and a Corrupt Sri lankan ..... they both are selfish ... both are greedy .... both won't care of any environmental impact when toxic material is thrown in to the waterways ... and best of all they both are utterly ignorant.

    Jaliya Sunday, 12 August 2018 03:25 PM

The fishermen in the region fear that this will affect the fish in the sea and in turn their livelihood. .... again it is to the best interests of the fisherman not the environment or the marine life NOT including fish .. with clinical waste and chemical toxins consume of fish in the areas will have a serious impact on our future unborn children. There would be a strong possibility that the children are born by 2025 would have birth defects if fish consumption is continued from those areas.

    Ajja Sunday, 12 August 2018 03:41 PM

The worst is we people consume poison at the end of the day from Sea food!!

    Medicine Sunday, 12 August 2018 04:50 PM

Don't blame India. We always run to them. We get majority of our medicines from them. This is our people trying to pass the buck to India. Investigations will go no where . Our people both public and private quietly get rid of expired medicines and dump them at remote places. India is a massive sub continent where richest of the rich and poorest of the poor lives.

    Raj Sunday, 12 August 2018 05:45 PM

You fool, the medicines made in India are European or American medicines produced under license. We in Sri Lanka could do that if our politicians agree.

    Mandayan Sunday, 12 August 2018 04:58 PM

In 2015 when Chennai was unindated with flood, same type of waste appeared in Northern shore, specially Pointpedro. Now that Kerala is flooding. Is the waste dumps in both states are in low lands? Government must ask India to investigate. Quite dangerous for sea lives and it’s consumers.

    Senewi Sunday, 12 August 2018 06:25 PM

India may be sending those on fishing boats
