Court of Appeal issued an interim order staying the operation of arrest warrants issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate against former Minister Ravi Karunanayake and six others in connection with alleged second bonds scam in 2016.
However, the Court of Appeal observed that this order should not be an obstacle for the on going investigations into treasury bond issuance.
The Court of Appeal also decided to issue notices on the respondents in the petitions.
Court of Appeal three-judge-bench comprising Justice (President) A.H.M.D. Nawaz, Justice Shiran Gunaratne and Justice Sobhitha Rajakaruna made this order consequent to the writ petitions filed by Ravi Karunanayake and six others challenging Colombo Fort Magistrate's order to issue warrants against them on last March 6.
The seven petitioners who had been named as the suspects in the Magistrate’s Court were; former Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake, PTL beneficiary owner Arjun Aloysius, PTL Chief dealer Kasun Palisena, PTL Chairman Jeffrey Joseph Aloysius, Chitta Ranjan Hulugalle, S. Pathumanapan and Indika Saman Kumara.
