The Court of Appeal today issued an Interim Order staying the holding of the election scheduled to be held tomorrow for the election of the office bearers of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).
The Bench comprising Justices P. Padman Surasena (President/CA) and Arjuna Obeysekera, issued this Interim Order in view of earlier Court Order that empowers the Court to impose any suitable condition.
The CA also issued notices returnable for June 24 on the 27 Respondents including the 9th Respondent the President of the Sri Lanka Cricket Thilanga Sumathipala.
Petitioner Nishantha Ranatunga, who is a former Test Cricketer as well as the former Secretary of the Sri Lanka Cricket and presently the President of Colts Cricket Club.
He is also a candidate at the election to the Post of President, Sri Lanka Cricket at the election scheduled to be held today (31).
He filed his Writ Petition seeking to prohibit the Sri Lanka Cricket from permitting the 9th Respondent Thilanga Sumathipala to contest for the post of President, Sri Lanka Cricket.
President’s Counsel Romesh de Silva appeared for the Petitioner.
Navin Marapana appeared for Thilanga Sumathipala. Additional Solicitor General Sanjay Rajaratnam appeared for the Minister. (S.S.Selvanayagam)
