A prisoner was injured after another prisoner opened fire at him using a micro pistol inside the Wariyapola prison this afternoon, prison sources said.
A probe has already been launched in connection with the incident, specifically to find out as to how the prisoner possessed a weapon inside the prison.
According to Wariyapola police, the injured prisoner was rushed to the Kurunegala Teaching Hospital for treatment after the shooting.
Kurunegala Hospital Deputy Director Chandana Kadangamuwa said the victim should undergo an operation to remove the bullet, which is inside his skull, but his condition was not critical.

Drugs, Phones and guns are freely access in prisions. They might come and kill judges also.
