The cat, which was caught when it tried to enter the Welikada Magazine prison with two heroin packets tied around its neck on Saturday, remains unharmed in the prison premises, a spokesman said.
The Prisons Commissioner (operations) Chandana Ekanayaka confirmed that the cat was found inside the prison premises roaming freely.
The cat was captured by the prison officials with two packets of heroin weighing 1g and 2mg in a small bag along with two SIM cards and a memory chip.
The heroin and other items have been handed over to the Borella Police.
He also said special investigations had commenced to find those who deployed the cat as a carrier of contraband into the prison.(Nimanthi Ranasinghe)
