The Chinese Embassy today lauded President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s remarks that the Sri Lankan Government will not renegotiate the existing agreement on the Hambantota Port and the commercial contract that was signed would not be changed amid a change of government.
It said the Chinese side highly appreciated the remarks and was willing to guide relevant enterprises to work with the Sri Lankan side to expedite implementing the established agreement and further promote the prosperity and development of the Hambantota Port.
“China reiterates once again that it highly respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Sri Lanka. The security and control of Hambantota Port are entirely in the hands of the Sri Lankan Government and Navy, which is no any different from other ports in Sri Lanka,” the Embassy said.

Once the agreement is signed it cannot be changed. Its a iron clad contract. Unless you made an amended to the original contract which have to be agreed by the both parties.
