Drone technology has wide applications, including in civilian, commercial, military and state administrative sectors. Today there are several prototypes of drone taxis, there are functional drone based delivery systems already in use and with time its likely to expand. Both the corporate and public sectors should work together and apply drone technology to Sri Lanka. We should also experiment more in this area and try to be ahead of other countries. Drone technology can be coupled with AI and Robotics to produce smarter and effective systems and applications.

All seems good and interesting but who would control Drone Navigation around the sky. What is the guarantee that drug traffickers would not use to smuggle Kerala Stuffs across the sea unmanned? There will be practical headache that should be considered too.

A Sri Lankan company led by an engineer is already pioneering the use of drines for agriculture. Another Sri Lankan startup venture is already pioneering the use of drones for parcel delivery with a well known Sri Lankan ecommerce website. Another Sri Lankan FB app is testing out the use of drones in tree planting. There is already a fair amount of technology homegrown by Sri Lankan engineers in the use of drones. All that the Ministry has to do is tap into the local resources.

Now that's what it is called development. I am pretty much sure it will be as successful as the balloon project.

    Good luck to the farmers

Govt need to provide skill training and financial support to use the machinery and vehicles to improve the production efficiency for farmers. Need more control on weeds and pesticide use causing nitrate pollution ended in drinking water ways.

Absolute nonsense!!! Should encourage farmers to cultivate more and more!! Then get the university graduates to get into agriculture and agri-based industries!!!

Every development step has it's inherent danger of some person misusing it for negative activities. That is not a justification for not taking the country towards progress. Checks and balances should be in place to counter these menances. Otherwise we will not have come so far. Great attempt by the government.
