The government has decided to seek the opinion of the Attorney General on the possibility of increasing the Cabinet of Ministers to 32 according to what they say is included in the Constitution, it is learnt.

A minister had suggested that a legal ambiguity existed with regards to the number of ministers to be included in the Cabinet in the event of it being a one party government.

The confusion had started when the new 30-member Cabinet was sworn in, which included the President and the Prime Minister as those holding ministerial posts.

The UNP on the other hand, was of the view that the 30-member Cabinet should not include the President and the Prime Minister as they should be counted separately with the final total coming to 32. (Ranjan Kasthuri)

A Cabinet is not intended to accommodate MPs but to form an efficient government. It must be the exception to obtain a portfolio which only qualitatively suitable persons are entitled to. Germany has 14 ministers, including the chancellor, who of course does not hold a ministerial portfolio. There is only one State-Minister and no Deputy Ministers. Germany has a population of more than 80 million and not only 22 million.

No need to consult AG it is not a part of his job to advise on the number of ministers. The constitution is clear as the French Alps water ... the magic number is 30. PRZ and PM wants ministries they should be counted as ministers to limit the number to 30. Every excuse under the sun to increase the tax burden and looting on the public funds. This is what the democracy they know .. every loophole asshole and butt hole be used to increase the number of looters .... and merry Christmas !!

Make all 225 bulls as cabinet Ministers and then their problem is solved..Let the country go to hell..OR High time to bury this unpractical democracy and bring up firm and fair dictator to country..

In another Democracy the AG who gave wrong advice to the President and the President who violated the Constitution both would have resigned from their positions by now.

Same AG argued about President decision about calling for election. The people voted for a change but Ranil formed a government with same MR mps at the start and no action has been taken against the past. Every one is taking about Bond scheme but no one is explaining what happen. Learn from Pakistan and Malaysia. Ranil , you are supporter of MR so there will be no change.Please educate public and your MPS
