The Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) today threatened to go on a trade union action once the students who are said to have passed the MBBS degree from the South Asian Institute of Technology and Medicine (SAITM) are granted provisional registration.
The decision to take trade union action was approved at the annual general meeting where Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya was re-appointed as the President of the GMOA for the sixth time.
The GMOA said since the SAITM’s medical degree did not meet the prescribed standards as said by the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC), students who pass out from the SAITM could not practice as doctors in Sri Lanka.

This GMOA is a menace. They only know to threaten. Just imagine if all professional organisations behave like them. Shows their class. Why can't they have a dialogue and come up with a win-win solution without going to the media to get publicity for every turn they make. Next time they will release a press statement if Padeniya wants to go to the wash room.

You are afraid because one day when PMC become doctors they never strike and they will work without PP as they don have to get further money from poor. They have enough money for their bread and butter.

If you are real doctors you will not threaten poor people and you will never use them as a weapon my dear patriots...

Ok, all practice is in GMOA are state graduates?
Molaya Monday, 27 June 2016 11:26 AM
Why all this fuss, whether studied in government, private or foreign universities. Let's have a Standard Test for all students before they can practice. Then will see the difference. Come to sense....guys

Dictator or not, with this SAITAM issue, I am backing 100% GMOA stance. Otherwise our country health system will be as bad as India or any other 3rd world country.
Perumal Monday, 27 June 2016 11:14 AM
Charana, patients get cured in spite of treatment as well as because of treatment by doctors (GMOA or otherwise). And patients die in spite of treatment as well as because of treatment. Even a biased SLMC cannot help this reality. Perhaps SAITM doctors may be better than State University doctors; who knows?

well done Dr. Padeniya breaking world record 6th time president you are almost a dictator this clearly shows how weak Organization GMOA is as for 6 times could not produced any other leader which means no capable people within GMOA or he is a dictator ? - people you decide one person decide health minister up to you to look into their constitution.?

It is a pity how a irreperable damage has been caused to many due to negligence of the Authorities. This is typical of Srilankan style of doing things

Exactly...Most of these Private Institutions thrive on the number of students passing out.
Henry Sunday, 26 June 2016 04:41 PM
Well GMOA is very correct! You will observe the expertise knowledge of them if one goes for private channeling within seconds they diagnose the illness and call for the next in line! It's not EGO their experience
