The Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) today threatened that it would launch a 24 hour islandwide strike on Friday if the Post Internship appointment list is not withdraw by Thursday (5).

Addressing a press conference in Colombo, GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge said the list had been issued without the transfer board’s consent where GMOA is also part of and it was published in the social media without uploading it to the Official website which is also a violation.

Dr. Aluthge said the matter had been discussed at the GMOA executive committee meeting and the membership expressed their objection towards the commenced Post internship appointment list due to its illegality.

He said the list had been prepared by the Director of the Medical Service Dr. Priyantha Athapaththu without advicing the transfer committee, was based on a arbitrary decision.

He also charged the list was prepared disregarding peripheral hospitals of the country therefore could pose a threat to the services provided by such hospitals.

The GMOA urged the authorities to withdraw the alleged illegal Post internship appointment list and prepare a new list with the consent of the transfer committee to safe guard the country’s health services.

Also the GMOA said it would lodge a written complaint along with the Public Service Commission against the issued list seeking an immediate inquiry over Medical Service Director Dr. Priyantha Athapaththu for his arbitrary decisions. (Thilanka Kanakarathna)

Hello,First of all your were educated out of the tax payers hard earned money hoping you guys will render a service to the public through getting appointed to government hospitals but you guys end up by doing private practise and earn lot of money. for every simple reason you guys go on strike and put the patients life at risk. first and foremost you guys must be punished by the public and make it safe for others to live.

What else they know except strike, protest and motorcades. Why don't they go on strike right throughout of the year. They have already broken the record of harbor workers of past years. Disgraceful lot. They have the poor patients' curse on them for ever. We wonder how many deaths these strikes would have caused. A heartless lot.

When you go on strike on Friday your actual next working day will be Monday. That means you all will be out for 72 hours. Carry on Doctors. Let God save the poor patients.

Post intern appointments are usually made on the performance of each doctor at the MBBS, to enable those who did well to pursue a postgraduate course in subjects they excelled in.But, some who have 'influence' are given posts for personal benefits only. This appears to have happened.

GMOA is like NATO, No Action Talk Only. Please strike to see what happens to you this time

The general public is now utterly fed up with the antics of these doctors. If it goes on like this, the day is not far away the people will react in a very nasty way.

The only solution is to hand over clinical medicine to be run by the Scientists and let the artificial titled doctors play only a junior role in the new setup.

The public are now very sure of who the GMOA morons are and used to their terrorist tactics. The media should refrain from giving them publicity because the people know them for what they are and what they are going to do!

Pachcha Chandre Tuesday, 03 October 2017 08:56 AM

What a waste of public money and time. Why not the Government decide to send this bunch to heaven soon.

    Mason Tuesday, 03 October 2017 05:57 PM

It is the duty of the government to see health care is provided to the public. These greedy GMOA members are holding them to a ransom. In order that the public do not suffer, get down Doctors from abroad. I remember in 1980/81 there were Doctors of various Nationalities in our State Hospitals courtesy United Nations. These GMOA doctors must be dismissed forthwith if they continue with strike.

anton mcdonald Wednesday, 04 October 2017 08:43 AM

Few crooks representing the GMOA (Gang of Monsters oppressing Ail) are all out to sabotage the lives of innocent civilians to gain popularity. The health sector should be placed under the category of Essential Services and all doctors who violate the rule to be requested to pack their bags.
