Four members of the administrative panel of the Jummah Mosque in Nallandaluwa, Puttalam were remanded indefinitely by Puttalam Magistrate Bandula Gunaratne today -- on charges of beating a woman, who had earlier been sexually abused, with a coconut spathe bowl (hanassa).
The suspects had allegedly beaten the woman a hundred times with the hanassa.
The woman had been sexually abused by a man at her residence a few days earlier.
The woman had complained to the Police about the sexual abuse. She had later been beaten by the members of the administrative panel of the mosque while police investigations to apprehend the suspect were in progress.
The victimised woman had later lodged another complaint, through her lawyer, over the second incident.(Hiran Priyankara Jayasinghe)

Such zealots must be arrested, tried and put behind bars for as long as the law permits, for committing such heinous acts upon a vulnerable woman.

Very good. What the lady did was perfectly right. Taking laws into their own hands under the name of religions should be stopped.

There is something fundamentally wrong with Islam.

This is extra judicial and has no place in modern society neither should any religion pass judgements on civilians. These are events that make the rest of us fear this particular religion. Just look at Pakistan chaos and hindrance to minority religious communities. Thats barbaric we all have a right to our choice of religious beliefs. This is not 2 B.C. via DM Android App

Well it's sad thou the way woman are treated this part of the world given any religion. In Islam there are no such practices, it happened in Arabian peninsula at a time called the period of ignorance way before Islam was existed. It's the culture carry forward the practice and never preached in the religion to do such things. For these kind of men the law should give the max punishment that they can.

This is not part of any religion, leave alone Islam. The culprit man should be given hundred lashes, and not the woman. It is the duty of the any society to help the victim of sex maniacs who prowl the society. The question is where is the man who committed the crime? Is he related to the mosque management?
