Fishing communities alerted over adverse weather conditions

The naval and fishing communities have been warned not to venture into the deep sea areas to the East coast of the Island until further notice owing to the adverse weather conditions, the Department of Meteorology said today.

It said the low pressure area, that has formed in the south-east Bay of Bengal was likely intensify in to a depression during next 48 hours and likely to intensify further.

“The system is likely to move nearly westwards to the North coast of Sri Lanka and will affect weather over the island and surrounding sea areas of the country during next few days,” it added.

The department further advised those who are out at Sea over these region to return to coasts or move safer areas immediately. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
