The Election Commission is closely monitoring the situation after the discovery of a fresh bout of COVID-19 patients in the country, an official said yesterday.
Commission’s Chairman Mahinda Deshapriya told Daily Mirror that his office would meet on Wednesday to take stock of things as at this moment. He said the Commission had a practical problem in the conduct of postal voting for those deployed for duty at quarantine centres in the Polonnaruwa district following the latest outbreak of Corona cases.
“We will discuss it when the Commission meets on Wednesday,” he said.
Postal voting for Medical Officers of Health will be conducted today and it will be conducted in stages for others eligible, till July 17.
However, the Anuradhapura district election authorities decided to postpone postal voting in the Rajanganaya Divisional Secretariat area until further notice. (Kelum Bandara)
