A parcel containing mobile phones, chargers, SIM cards, batteries and drugs etc, thrown from an adjoining lane into the Galle Prison, was found by the prison officers, Prisons Spokesman Chandana Ekanayake said.
He said two mobile phones, a SIM card, two phone chargers, two small parcels suspected to be heroin were among the items.
“The operation was initiated by a team of prison officers, who were on night duty yesterday,” Ekanayake said.
“The items were handed over to the Galle Police Station for further inquiry,” he added.
He said search operations are carried out on regular basis in the future too prevent these kinds of activities taking place within prisons. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
