Former parliamentarian D. E. W. Gunasekara has stepped down as the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Sri Lanka.

Following the resignation, Dr. G. Weerasinghe has been appointed as the new General Secretary for the party.

it doesn't make any sense to keep the name as a communist party since it's policies are no longer is a communist ideology
