The actual COVID-19 status in the county is not reflected with the cases reported at present as there is a considerable delay in getting PCR results from laboratories, the Public Health Inspectors Union claimed.

“The cases being reported at present are of the PCR results released four days ago. If we are to get an idea of the country’s situation in terms of COVID-19, it is vital to set up a mechanism, which enables the quick release of PCR results from laboratories,” PHIs Union President Upul Rohana said.

“The present pandemic situation in the country is more dreadful than what is being shown through PCR results from laboratories. Therefore, the Health authorities must take pertinent measures to create mechanism that would comfortably manupulate the swift release of PCR results,” he stressed.

Moreover, Upul Rohana urged people not to venture outside for no reason and gather in large numbers.

“People must act with utmost responsibility. Otherwise, the country could be dragged to a point where situation would be out of bounds, “ he warned.

The country has reported over 1,500 COVID-19 cases daily for the last three days. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

You are screaming into deaf ears my friend... We live in a country where pride, ego iand racism is given prominence than humanity.. If a health minister is trowing pots into river to cure a decease ... Imagine the level of responsibility!!!! You are screaming into deaf ears my friend!

    Ranaweera Saturday, 01 May 2021 10:59 PM

This is a guy who keeps criticising instead if doing something. That has been his job so far.

    warren Sunday, 02 May 2021 12:33 PM

Ranaweera, can't you understand the simple difference between factual analysis and criticism? This person has been predicting the current situation for months back. The 'Sar' and government did not heed their opinion. What else can they do? Because of people like you, this country has fallen into a precipice, defending the current regime even if your family members get affected by COVID-19. Try to overcome your 'servitude' attitude. Can't you see the number of infections surging day by day?

    GGT Sunday, 02 May 2021 12:53 AM

Yeah, you are quite right, the actual figure of CORONA victims is less than the intentional fabricated numbers.

Do a bond scam or any thing to beg borrow and beg, steal and borrow to get the vaccine.....as the President says" vaccine is the only answer" which even a toddler would know.

    Chamarilatha Sunday, 02 May 2021 07:24 AM

Wasting your time saying these things. The authorities including govt ministers and MPs don't give a damn. They have all been vaccinated!! Who cares about the public.

There's no government managed IT network connecting private, public hospitals, pharmacies, laboratories and clinics in Sri Lanka. Real-time reporting is a nightmare. You never know how accurate these information.

I live in an overseas country very much safe from the COVID pandemic. I receive news from Lanka of the callous and cruel way the politicians are treating the plight of the people right now.Should not Mr Rohana, who runs the risk of even losing his job be praised for speaking out rather than ridiculed by some of the commentators.Support people like Mr Rohana and help get relief for people. The rich will look after themselves. It is the poor who will die

    Joshua Sunday, 02 May 2021 10:43 AM

You are correct....We never had actual figures so far I presume.

    Fernando Sunday, 02 May 2021 11:49 AM

The crowded streets markets new year's celebration should have been stopped only for families to meet a lesson should have been learnt from other countries until the vaccine is given those who celebrated now is in mourning it is too late thousands will die as this virus is deadly

Nonsensical and simplistic criticisms will not help. This PHI is doing his best with the community in mind, speaks the truth as always, highlighting the mistakes being made by Govt Dept of Health trying to 'dupe' the people and it was also some stupid heartless person who spat on one of the PHI's who went to help the people in question. So all those who criticise these selfless, National minded and dedicated workers for NO wrong doing should be ashamed of themselves. SHAME! MM

You may be right and clever criticizing. Why not get your members to do a honest job of work. It is not easy for the public to find their PHI.
